Perfect is the enemy of done!

It’s why this newsletter took longer than it should’ve.

We’re all guilty of pushing tasks to the ‘things that’ll never happen list.’

The follow-up BD call that should’ve happened last week.

That LinkedIn post you've been meaning to write, or finally sorting out your website.

We hear it all the time from recruiters.

Spotlighting and overthinking, tinkering.

Whatever you call it, it usually comes down to chasing perfection.

Since building Floats, we’ve spoken with hundreds of recruiters trying to grow their desks or win more business.

And we’ve noticed a pattern.

People hold off, tweak too much, or wait for things to be “just right.”

But the truth is, there’s no such thing as perfect. That point never really comes.

It's a "Fugazi"

And clients aren’t looking for perfect anyway.

They want something real. Something useful. Something new.

Recruiter BD Hacks - Avoiding the Junk folder with outbound email

Have you ever checked your DKIM?

If your emails keep landing in Junk, this might be why.

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is like a digital signature that tells inboxes your email is legit. Without it, your outreach looks sketchy to spam filters, no matter how good the content is.

Not sure if yours is set up right?

It’s worth checking. A quick fix could mean way more of your emails get seen.

We used SmartLead to set up our own email system. It’s added hundreds of users to Floats. There’s no reason you can’t do the same.

Want help getting it sorted? Just ask.

Recruitment Rant

Every few months, we hear AI is about to replace recruiters.

Smart matching. Automated sourcing. Auto placements.

Great

It’s exactly what they said when computers came along.
Then the internet.
Then apps.

Remember that old Apple ad? “There’s an app for that.”
Now it’s “There’s an AI for that.

And you know what? It’s true.

There is an AI for writing emails.
There’s one for interview questions.
There’s probably one out there trying to read this post right now.

But none of them can do what good recruiters do.

They don’t build trust over time.
They don’t tell stories.
They don’t feel the shift in someone’s tone and know they’re ready for a move.
They don’t spot the candidate who’s better than their CV.
They don’t take a hiring manager from “we’re not looking” to “can you send them over?”

Tech evolves. That’s a good thing.

But like every big leap forward before it, AI won’t kill recruitment.
It’ll sharpen it.

Floats focus

Last month, we ran our first demo stand at RCSA’s Talent X event in Sydney.

We’re a bootstrapped startup, so the budget was... let’s say tighter than Elon and Trump a few months ago.
The banner cost $160. The branded tees were about $50. A video made from AI tools $100 subscription.

But no one cares if you’re in the right place, talking to the right people.

Here are the tools we use to make the video.

  1. Veed.io - AI web-based video editing - beginner-friendly

  1. OpusClip - Short videos and podcast clips - high quality

  2. Runway - AI video generation - Fun
